So, I was bored at work and thought I'd try out Minion again to see how well it updated my Add-Ons. I had just updated a few of my Add-Ons to the latest version, manually, from www.esoui.com, as I normally do. But, I have a lot of Add-Ons that I haven't had new releases in a while. I installed and ran Minion and allowed it to scan my Add-Ons after I had updated them. I opened Add-On configuration files in a text editor to see what changed when Minion did an update and to verify that I did, in fact, have the latest version installed already.

My checks just confirmed why I don't use Minion. It reported that I had older versions installed, even though I had just installed the latest version. It also wanted to "update" my current version which is the latest one, fresh off of esoui.com TO an older version.

If it seems to work for you, then keep using it. What you don't know, probably won't hurt you any. This is why I don't use it.

Same as above. Just hovering over the version buttons this time:

So a few questions...

The mini clock for starters, where did you DL the 3.1 version because on ESOUI it shows that the current version is 2.1 as well.

http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1197-MiniClock.html

2.100021 : updated API version number
2.100019 : updated API version number
2.100017 : updated API version number
2.100016 : updated API version number
2.100015 : updated API version number
2.100014 : updated API version number
2.100013 : updated API version number
2.100012 : added CaptainBlagBird's code (just used 128 px wide, seems a little bit more centered, not sure)
1.100012 : Initial Realease

So I think that is likely a bug, and if you let it update it shouldn't affect anything.

On the alphagear you are using an inactive test build, at least it shows inactive on the ESOUI site. That is likely why it is glitching, I'd switch to the other release.

The Votan looks like it's simply reading something wrong, likely because of the manual update not flagging something correctly, allowing it to update would clear the issue.

The Foundry Tactical issue is you have HIST installed and that stops at .74, again this is probably an issue because of the manual install, the SUMMERSET version is .90, so you would need to move to the SUMMERSET version.

Not saying you should use minion, but I'm sticking with it.

I was mainly entertained by the .gifs

Interesting observations, Meg...

That said, you are a VERY detailed oriented man and extremely patient...

I have one character and run Minion.... IT'S STILL TO MUCH DAMN WORK! =D

Meg, the only one I can comment on (it's the only one we share) is the Voltan's Minimap. The ## version 1.4 that you see at the top is just a "Text File". If you want to get into the actual addon, you will need to open up the .lua file to see the real thing. And that seems the case in the ones you posted above as well.

In your case, most likely the text at the top was changed and the lua wasn't edited to the correct number. Hense the update. The actual version number is within the main.lua

function addon:InitSettings()
local LibHarvensAddonSettings = LibStub("LibHarvensAddonSettings-1.0")

local settings = LibHarvensAddonSettings:AddAddon("Votan's Mini Map")
if not settings then return end
addon.settingsControls = settings
settings.allowDefaults = true
settings.version = "1.4.0"
settings.website = "http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1399-VotansMiniMap.html"

You're right about the clock. I don't use it, but Minion scanned it in my folder so I looked at it. The version numbers didn't look right.

I'm afraid you have your Alphagear versions mixed up, though. The one I have installed is the active "Version: 6.2.1 beta 3"
The one on esoui.com that's labeled (inactive) and says WARNING on the inside is "Version: 6.2.0 beta 2." I wouldn't have made that mistake. It says, "inactive."

It is literally impossible for a manual update to "not flag something correctly" because there is no "flagging" going on. Manually installing the add-ons is simply unzipping all the files into the correct add-on folder. I checked the operation of the Minion update process and it does the exact same thing. It just copies the .zip file contents to the Add-Ons folder. The version numbers it reports as being newer when they aren't is why I don't trust it.

Again, with FTC, if you look at the Minion interface you can see that my installed version is 0.90, the Summerset version. It's wanting to "update" it to 0.74.

I'm not saying, "don't use it." I'm just reporting why I don't use it. Maybe installing Alphagear version 6.2.0 beta 2 (inactive) over version 6.2.1 beta 3, or FTC .74 over .90 wouldn't hurt a thing and you'd never notice.

Curiosity is the cure for boredom, there is no cure for curiosity.

I can't see what you manually installed, all I can see is what is showing as installed in the screenshot, which is the inactive Alphagear install and the HIST version of FTC. That may very well be a problem with the minion installer not recognizing what you've actually installed.

I'm betting if you went in and installed the FTC Summerset and Alphagear2 through Minion, it would clear the issue up.

I have no idea why it is not recognizing the manual installed version correctly.

As to flagging, that was regarding internal flagging used by the minion program, so that it can determine current versions etc.

I will say I'm not surprised there are issues when trying to integrate manual installs into the minion application.

Well I have 51 addons in my game, 46 I actually use, 5 I haven't bothered to delete as I might reload them.

A handful are for PVP, so only run on that character, but 40'ish of them are run on my main. 35'ish on my alts (have a bunch that are crafting/house related that I only run on my main/crafter).

Keeping those updated manually is more work than I want to do :-)

Bwaahahahaha. I've got 195 add-ons installed (not counting 16 Master Merchants, 16 Advance Filters, and 5 HarvestMap sub add-ons). 95 of which are currently active.
I use an add-on (Addon Selector) to manage my add-ons. They don't cause any problems with lag or otherwise, so I usually don't bother.

On the esoui.com site I just sort by 200 most recently updated. There are rarely more than four or five of the ones I use updated on any given day. I sometimes go three or four days without checking and still only have to update four or five. WinZip "remembers" my Add-Ons folder and opens the download automatically so two or three mouse clicks is all a manual install takes. I think it's less work to delete the existing add-on folder from within the "save" dialog than to confirm replacing existing files. That also ensures no left over junk.

I can't use the harvest map or travel add-ons, as well as a couple others. They lag my game and cause hitching :(

That still sounds like more work and thinking than opening minion, updating the 2-3 things that say update and then closing minion.

I also use add-on selector and it's great, have a bunch of combinations I swap between depending on what I'm doing.

Good to know. When I was warned not to update, I didn't know the issue was Minion related. I can update!
