“One thing you who had secure or happy childhoods should understand about those of us who did not. We who control our feelings, who avoid conflicts at all costs, or seem to seek them. Who are hypersensitive, self-critical, compulsive, workaholic, and above all survivors. We are not that way from perversity, and we cannot just relax and let it go. We’ve learned to cope in ways you never had to.”

Yup made that connection immediately when I saw the video of the car. That movie had a very big impact on me as a young teen...Fire and Ice was another cool one, Ralph Bakshi at his best. I actually owned several cels from Heavy Metal for the longest time, finally sold them a few years back.

What was the point of that remake? They even changed the music, though Raider Rider does appear in the movie later.

They did a pretty terrible follow up Heavy Metal 2000, was just terrible. If you liked Heavy Metal though, you should try to dig up Ralph Bakshi's Fire and Ice (heavily inspired by Frank Frazetta) and also Wizards in a nice trippy piece, that reminds me a lot of Vaughn Bode's Cobalt 60 comic.

Yeah, Wizards was another good Bakshi film. Necron 99 was my avatar (everywhere) for the longest. Just recently changed it to one of my dogs here.

When I was a kid, maybe 8 or 9 years old, my parents rented a copy of Wizards from the local VHS store. Just another cartoon (or so they thought). So I sat down on the couch one Saturday night, and watched...

That's the day I learned: animation wasn't just for kids!

If you aren't familiar with Vaughn Bode and Cobalt 60, it's worth digging up.
